National Archives Announces Portal for Civil Rights Cold Case Records Access

WASHINGTON, DC

The National Archives announced the launch of the Civil Rights Cold Case Records Collection Portal today.

This portal serves as both a subject guide and an index for the Civil Rights Cold Case Records Collection, which consists of records generated in response to the Civil Rights Cold Case Records Collection Act, signed into law by President Donald Trump in 2019.

The portal offers a more accessible way to access records that have been digitized, reviewed, and released under the Act, utilizing information maintained in the National Archives Catalog. Its enhanced filtering capabilities and interactive map interface provide a visual representation of the incidents documented in these records. Additionally, a frequently asked questions page is available to assist users.

“I want to extend my sincere gratitude to the teams from offices across the National Archives and our contract partners who worked to develop this portal. I also want to extend thanks and appreciation to the external stakeholders who provided valuable feedback during the development of this innovative tool,” said Deputy Chief Operating Officer Meghan Guthorn.

The portal currently features records from the first three incidents digitized, reviewed, and released under the Act, with additional records to be added as they are released.
